About the Shtibl Minyan

Every Shabbat is Simchat Torah at the Shtibl Minyan

The Shtibl Minyan is a egalitarian lay-led independent minyan and Jewish community in Los Angeles whose davening attempts to fulfill the joyous Hassidic ideal of “כל עצמותי תאמרנה/with all my limbs I will say praise” (Psalms 35:10). In addition to davening together (using the nusach of Reb Shlomo Carlebach), we study Torah and engage in political and social action to further justice.

We hope that the ruach of the Shtibl’s hakafot will bring peace and healing to our broken world. There is a little Simchat Torah in every Shabbat at the Shtibl Minyan, so please come daven and dance and celebrate with us.

Rejoicing in the fulfillment of a commandment and in love for God who had prescribed the commandment is a supreme act of divine worship. One who humbles and makes light of themselves on such occasions, achieves greatness and honor, for they serve God out of sheer love. (Maimonides, Mishneh Torah, Laws of Sukkot 8:15)

Completely Independent, Completely Egalitarian

The Shtibl Minyan is a completely independent and entirely lay-led religious community. All of us bring different skills and talents, with the common goal of building and maintaining a sacred community. Our members plan and lead every service, every educational activity, and every social justice event.

We are also fully egalitarian. All members may lead or participate in every aspect of our services and events.
